AN EXPERIMENTAL SYUDY OF THE HEALING PROCESS OF ANORGANIC BONE(Pyrost^(¢ç)) AS BONE SUBSTITUTE ON THE MANDIBLE OF RABBITS

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of the anorganic bone (Pyrost R) on the regeneration of mandibular defects of rabbits.
15 rabbits, weighing about 2.5 kg, were used as experimental animals, divided into control group(5 rabbits) and experimental group(10 rabbits). After making surgical defects with a bur on the mandibular body area, the surgical defect was filled with Pyrost R in experimental group, blood in control group.
The rabbits were sacrificed at the 3rd day, 1st week, 2nd week, 4th week and 6th week after operation. And then the specimen were routinely prepard for light microscopic examination.
The results were as follows.
1. After 3rd day, the bony defect was filled with inflammatory cells, fibroblasts, blood clot, and fibrous exudate in the intertrabecular space of Pyrost!
2. After Ith week, osteoblasts and osteoclasts were showed at the margin of the intact bone, and the stroma of trabecular of PyrostR was filled with collagenous grnulation tissue, and the new bone formation was found partially.
3. The more noted new bone formation was found in the bony defect area and the intertrabecular spaces of Pyrost R were narrowed by newly formed connective tissues after 2nd week.
4. In 4the week, the bony tissues in the stroma and trabecula of Pyrost R were matured by extensive new bone formation and these manifestations were more remarkable in 6th week.
5. No resorption of PyrostR was seen until 6th week and the Experimental Group showed more rapid bone healing than the Control Group.
